Châteauroux » Limoges | 162 km & 2379 m ↗
Officially termed Le Poinçonnet-Panazol. This type of classic is a rarity in cycling, let alone the French Elite National scene. It will take us from the outskirts of the famous Châteauroux (to us Brits at least), all the way South to Limoges. It’s the epitome of A-to-B racing and takes place almost entirely in one direction—South. I’ll get onto what that means in a second. A just a 14-year-old, it’s a very fresh classic, but as listening to riders around the table, I’d say it has quite the reputation already. Maybe not the race as a whole, rather the protruding climb that sits 2/3rds of the way through the race. You can follow the race on DirectVélo from 12h30, with the Neutral start listed at 12h20.
Now, as I mentioned, this race route traverses due South for nearly its entire distance. And given the prevailing winds in the surrounding area of Limoges are from the West. If you’ve not guessed already, when a rider is handed a card with the map traced out like this, only one thing crosses our mind… Crosswinds.

They’re natural and seem to work in harmony with human physiology. No extra bits that do not need to be there. Just functional, as it should be.
