The Mattie Dodd Episode

Today, you’ll hear from Mattie Dodd of Tirol KTM.

We spoke a while back about how he had found the extra free time he had from an unfortunate illness, which put him out of action for several months.

Now he is back racing, and has had an incredible season.

He had a lot of what we’d call recovery time.

In an effort to get him back on the bike as quickly as possible, he had to find new ways to keep his brain fresh and motivation afloat.

You’ll hear how he did that through painting and writing, which he combines with his deep appreciation for history.

I’ll be joining him in Cyprus next week, as we both build toward 2026.

Enjoy.

In Ted Lasso, there was a perfect scene in which he described his fascination with Walt Whitman’s famous quote: “Be Curious; not judgmental.”

I think we all could do with a bit of that.

I am curious to see if I can create a podcast with curiosity at its core. That’s when Athletes After Hours came alive.

Athletes After Hours aims to discover the lesser-known sides of professional athletes, exploring what fascinates them when they step away from the spotlight of competition.

Each episode will feature intriguing conversations with elite competitors about their intellectual pursuits, creative hobbies, and the unexpected interests that fuel their curiosity between training sessions.

From family to friends, coffee to chefs, artists to videographers, and entertainers to storytellers. Discover the myriad ways these world-class athletes find balance and inspiration to complement their performance.

Join us as we uncover the fascinating intersection between athletic excellence and personal passions.
